Description: Lisa Oppenheim utilizes archival material to question how history is understood in the present. The work in Open Source reconsiders damaged negatives from a Chicago newspaper, photographs posted online by soldiers serving in Iraq, and Walker Evans’ Depression-era negatives that were deemed undesirable. The works emphasize how images circulate, and the power of bringing the overlooked into view.
