Description:

U-TOUCH at UC Riverside Screens the “War Dance”, An Academy Award nominated Film on Human Triumph against the 20-year civil war in Northern Uganda

U-TOUCH, a San Diego based non-profit, 501 (C) 3 volunteer organization, will be screening the Academy Award nominated film “War Dance”, in HUB Room 355, UC Riverside, on Monday, April 9, 2012, starting 3:00 pm.

The “War Dance was produced within the context of the twenty year civil war in Northern Uganda waged against the Government of Uganda by the Lords Resistance Army (LRA). It is a breathtaking powerful story that demonstrates the ultimate resilience and unbreakable human spirit in the face on unprecedented adversity.  Represented by Dominic, Nancy and Rose, the children of the war draw inspiration from the tragedy to prepare for the annual Uganda schools national music festival in which the Northern Uganda cultural war dance, “Bwola” epitomizes their triumph.

“War Dance” was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary and won two Emmys for Best Documentary and Best Cinematography along with over 20 festival awards and honors. It was recently the #1 documentary on Hulu and remains in the top 10.

The screening will be accompanied by an exhibition of African art. Please bring friends and family along.
