Description: I will review the proof of the existence of a pure state on a C*-algebra, briefly mention the Gelfand-Naimark theorem and universal representation of a C*-algebra, and then discuss direct integrals.  If time permits, I will begin on group C*-algebras and actions of groups on Hilbert spaces (strongly continuous unitary representations).
