This introductory course addresses the basics of California earthquakes. Topics include:



  • Why quakes happen here so frequently

  • How temblors are measured and compared

  • Case studies of famous quakes in California

  • Projections of the effects of the next "Big One" on the San Andreas Fault, and the San Jacinto Fault

  • Some recommended steps for earthquake preparation
