A UCR THEATRE PRODUCTION

NAMES
Directed by Root Park, written by David Campos
David and Courtney, a young married couple, are struggling to start a family.  After some time, David makes an appointment with a doctor to learn why he and his wife are having so much trouble conceiving a child. As David learns the truth, he is hit even harder with the knowledge that he must also tell his wife. How will he break the news?  How will she cope?  How will this news affect their future?

Names marks the first of many films to be produced by the UCR Department of Theatre in collaboration with the Department of Creative Writing. In addition to Names, other short films produced by students, faculty and alumni will be shown each evening.

Keun Pyo (Root) Park, director, is Assistant Professor at the UC Riverside Department of Theatre, where he teaches directing and film production. He received an MFA in Radio/TV/Film from the University of Texas at Austin and has a diverse background as an independent filmmaker, theatre director and actor. Prof. Park has taught film and video production at the University of Iowa and Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.  His narrative short films have screened at venues worldwide, and he received the Eastman Kodak Scholarship Award, Best Student Narrative Award at the Austin Film Festival, Best Student Voice at Jackson Hall Film Festival and Best Short Jury Award and the 2nd Public Award at Lyon Asian Film Festival, France.

David Campos, screenwriter, received a bachelor’s degree in English from California State University, Fresno, in 2010. He is an MFA candidate in the Creative Writing and Writing for the Performing Arts program at UC Riverside. He co-founded and co-hosted the literary radio show Pakatelas on KFCF 88.1 FM Fresno from 2009 – 2011, and is Co-Editor-in-Chief of the UC Riverside MFA literary arts journal CRATE. Recently, his poetry manuscript The Center of a Perfect Mango was a finalist for the Andres Montoya first book prize (2012). His work can be seen in the American Poetry Review, Boxcar Poetry Review, Verdad, Connotation Press, The Packinghouse Review, and In The Grove among others.
