Description: Too hot to go outside? Get inside a cool story with UCR Palm Desert's summer movie series, Lit Flicks -- films that transform big writing to the big screen. The theme for our second season is "Hot Crime in the Summertime," featuring three crime classics.

Prior to each film, enjoy appetizers courtesy of Pizzeria Villagio of Palm Desert and kick back for a short conversation by film and literary experts. This will be facilitated by Tod Goldberg, director of UCR Palm Desert's low-residency MFA program. After each film, there will be a brief discussion to talk about the adaptation. We also encourage everyone to read the books that inspired these great films.

6:30 p.m. June 26 "The Big Sleep"
The distinctive Humphrey Bogart/Lauren Bacall film noir, "The Big Sleep" casts Bogart as Raymond Chandler's cynical private eye Philip Marlowe from the book of the same name.
