Description: Development of theranostic nanostructures may offer both diagnosis and treatment functions in tackling various diseases at high spatial resolution. In the first segment of the talk, I will describe the efforts in developing various nanostructures derived from inorganic materials for simultaneous multi-modal imaging and photodynamic therapy (PDT) of cancers. Although these nanostructures show excellent imaging and phototherapeutic capabilities, their toxicity, immunogenicity, and biodegradability are the most critical concerns for clinical translation.....
