G. Edward Bruner and Ruth Charloff, conductors

J.S. Bach's sublime Magnificat will be performed by the UCR Choral Society and Chamber Singers, conducted by G. Edward Bruner.  Also on the program: the UCR Chamber Singers, led by Ruth Charloff, sing Bela Bartok's settings of Rumanian shepherds' Christmas folk songs, two beautiful songs by the late American composer Stephen Paulus, and Sweelinck's lively Baroque favorite, Hodie Christus natus est.  The gospel-tinged "Hallelujah" chorus from "Handel's Messiah: A Soulful Celebration" joyously caps the program.

The event is part of Calvary Presbyterian's ongoing Sacred Music for the City concert series, celebrating the church's beautiful architecture and acoustic splendor.
