Description: We investigate a general mechanism where the thermal relic is determined by number changing 3-to-2 interactions in a ‘strongly’ interacting dark sector, where a global chiral symmetry is broken in analogy to the Standard Model QCD and the dark matter particles are the pions described by a Chiral perturbation theory (ChPT). We show that the explicit inclusion of vector meson resonances improves the range of validity of the leading order theory significantly. The consequences of vector mesons in ChPT near resonance poles, where the vector mass is around three times the pion mass, is discussed in the case of a minimal QCD-like model (SU(3) ⇥ SU(3)/SU(3)).
