Description: In Riemannian geometry, a natural question to ask is "what manifolds admit nonnegative or positive curvature?" This question has lead to interest in deformations of Riemannian metrics and collapse (convergence to a lower dimensional space) of Riemannian manifolds. I will discuss some general results in this area and describe a particular deformation due to Jeff Cheeger in the context of manifolds with isometric group actions.
