Differential Geometry: "Structure of collapse via Cheeger deformations"

Description: Exploring the structure of collapse (i.e. convergence to a lower-dimensional space) with non-negative sectional curvature is essential to understanding which manifolds admit non-negative curvature. Little is known about collapse except in the 3-dimensional case, where understanding collapse is instrumental in Perelman's solution of the geometrization conjecture. I will describe a procedure for obtaining collapse that is due to Jeff Cheeger, and present current work towards uncovering the nature of collapse in this setting.
