Dr. Shawna Shapiro, Associate Professor
Writing Program and Linguistics Program, Middlebury College

In this session, we will consider how the concepts of Critical Language Awareness and linguistic justice can inform how we design courses, draft syllabi, craft assignments, and respond to student work. The insights and strategies here are particularly helpful in welcoming and supporting multilingual and multidialectal writers, but can be used to increase access, inclusion, and equity for all of the students we work with. There will be ample time for Q&A, as well as individual reflection and application to each participant’s own teaching context.
