This bilingual creative writing workshop is facilitated by Iván Aguirre (Hispanic Studies Department, UCR), Elena Cardona (Soka University of America), and Paula Cucurella (Hispanic Studies Department, UCR). The workshop consists of biweekly on Fridays from 4 to 6 pm., beginning in March and ending in May:

March 1 HMNSS 1500

March 15 INTS 1111.

April 5th INTS 1111.

May 3 INTS 1111.

May 17. INTS 1111.

The bilingual component is intended to address the diversity and linguistic complexity of the target audience: students and community members whose first language is Spanish, people who speak Spanish or English at home, or who know Spanish and want to experiment with creative writing in Spanish or both languages.

The workshop's activities are intended to offer the experience of expressing creatively in the language(s), prioritizing an unregulated use of language, unconstrained either by monolingual expectations or the need to express "something" discernible and verifiable, which can nonetheless serve a communicative and expressive function at the same time.

This bilingual creative writing workshop is hosted by the Hispanic Studies Department, and co-sponsored by LLASRC Latino & Latin American Studies Research Center, the CIS Center for Ideas and Society, and the HHDJ Health Humanities and Disability Justice Initiative.
