UCR Orchestra: Canción con Todos
Music of Latin America and Spain

UCR Orchestra

& special guest artist Patricia Caicedo

with

violinist Ruth Zhang

UCR's Mariachi Los Alteños

UCR Orchestra celebrates the diverse cultural richness of Latin America and Spain.  We welcome our guest artist, the brilliant soprano Patricia Caicedo – born in Colombia, currently from Barcelona – to perform the beloved Seven Spanish Folk Songs by Manuel de Falla, as well as four Latin American popular songs  –  from Cuba, Colombia, Brazil and Argentina  –  from her album De Mi Corazon Latino.  Ms. Caicedo is a well-known proponent of Latin American art song, travelling widely to record, perform and teach this varied repertoire. The program will also feature a special guest performance by UCR’s own Mariachi Los Alteños.  From Spain, the orchestra performs the buoyant overture to Chapí’s comedy zarzuela La Revoltosa and Granados’s colorful Three Spanish Dances.  The orchestra’s Latin American offerings include the electrifying Dance Suite from Estancia by Argentina’s Alberto Ginastera, and music by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Astor Piazzolla (his gorgeous tango Oblivion, featuring violinist Ruth Zhang).  Dr. Walter Clark, the founder of UCR’s Center for Iberian and Latin American Music, is the evening’s special honoree.  Ruth Charloff conducts.

Sponsored by the Department of Music and UCR's Center for Iberian and Latin American Music.
