About this Event
UC Riverside
Please join us for our second Spring 2023 event on:
Thursday, May 4th, 12-1:30 pm, Pacific Standard Time, in INTS 1109.
This event is co-sponsored by UCR CIVIC (Council for Intellectual Values and Inclusive Community) and UCR CIS (Center for Ideas and Society).
DEI Inc.? is posed as a question for our distinguished panel.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) offices have been lauded for helping under-represented students and faculty to feel welcome on campus and for their efforts to create more equitable outcomes through training on such topics as implicit bias and through investigations of discriminatory behavior. They have also been criticized for their role in increasing tensions on campus and for helping to create climates that are hostile to freedom of speech and inquiry. This panel of leading experts will discuss the contributions of DEI offices and the unintended consequences that may have resulted from the expansion of their responsibilities into more areas of campus life.
Our distinguished panelists are:
Carlos Cortés - Professor Emeritus, UC Riverside
Amna Khalid - Associate Professor, Carleton College
Jeffrey Snyder - Associate Professor, Carleton College
If you cannot join in person, you may join via this Zoom Link.
