“Entomology, Epidemiology, and the Economics of Climate Change”
Abstract:
Quantifying the economic impact of climate change requires careful estimation of how natural and social systems will be affected. Generating causal estimates of how climate affects society must go beyond associations observed in the general population. In the realm of infectious disease, we lean on insights from entomology and parasite biology to generate weather-driven estimates of malaria intensity that can be used to extrapolate to climate futures. Similar work can be done for other vector-borne diseases to quantify the effect of climate change through infectious disease, as well as feedback effects on human behavior.
