Mona May’s career exploded with Clueless, where her designs—like Cher’s yellow plaid skirt suit and Dionne’s bold hats—became cultural touchstones that continue to inspire new generations. Her work has since shaped countless films and TV shows, including Enchanted, The Wedding Singer, Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, and Never Been Kissed.
Â
In this talk, May will share how costume design builds character, drives story, and influences pop culture. Students will gain rare insight into her creative process—from sourcing vintage finds to working with directors and actors—and learn what it takes to bring unforgettable looks to the screen.
Â
This event is especially relevant for students in Theatre, Film, and Digital Production, including those working in costume design practicum courses. Don’t miss the opportunity to hear directly from one of Hollywood’s most influential costume designers and ask your own questions about storytelling through fashion.
