About this Event
What we know about the Universe, the big mysteries confronting us, and why it all matters
Presented by Prof. Michael Turner
Visiting Professor of Physics & Astronomy, UCLA
Rauner Distinguished Service Professor (emeritus), University of Chicago
The Universe is unimaginably large and old, yet we have built powerful instruments that allow us to see its outermost reaches and its big bang beginning 14 billion years ago. Our discoveries have revealed surprises as well as insights to our own existence here on Earth. We are building even more amazing instruments to answer the big questions, including the fate of the Universe, the nature of dark matter and dark energy, and the dilemma of the multiverse. All of this helps us to understand our place in the vast cosmos.
