From 1958 through 1965, folk music exploded in popularity
in the United States. While folk music popularizers
modernized the folk song, both in presentation and in
sentiment, a dedicated group of folk revivalists rejected them
as inauthentic and "commercial". However, the folk
popularizers approach, which projected contemporary Cold
War values onto the music, resonated with audiences.
