“Picasso Presents Gernika" is a historical docudrama about the child refugee crisis resulting from Hitler’s 1937 bombing of the Basque town of Gernika and Picasso’s artistic response to the event, entitled ‘Guernica’. The docudrama weaves together archival materials with footage of a staged reading of the play written by Dr. Begoña Echeverria. The play follows the story of two siblings separated from their mother, and then each other, after Hitler's bombing of Gernika. Picasso narrates their story and the history of his mural Guernica.
Created in collaboration of UCR Theatre Scholar Dr. Annika Speer, the film screening will be followed by a Q&A with Dr. Echeverria and Dr. Speer and a reception.
