Impact and Importance: Endowed Chairs of UCR - Interview #2

UC Riverside Stewardship and Donor Relations, in partnership with the UCR Palm Desert Center, is pleased to invite you to join us for a three-part summer series highlighting UCR’s recently appointed faculty endowed chairs. Sponsored by the university’s giving societies, these events will introduce participants to faculty from across campus, and will provide an opportunity to witness how these enterprising individuals propel research forward, demonstrating the importance of endowed chairs to the UC Riverside community.

The second interview is with Jean Helwege, Professor of Finance and Anderson Chair in Finance.

Helwege joined UCR as full professor of finance in 2015.  Previously she taught at University of South Carolina as the J. Henry Fellers Professor of Business Administration. She held faculty positions at Penn State, University of Arizona, and Ohio State University. From 1988 to 1998, she served as an economist in the Federal Reserve System. Her research interests include corporate bonds, banking, financial distress, initial public offerings and capital structure. She has authored over 30 scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals. She is co-editor of Quarterly Journal of Finance and associate editor of Journal of Financial Services Research At UCR, she teaches undergraduate and graduate fixed income, undergraduate banking, and corporate finance to graduate students. She served as the advisor to the Hylander Financial Group and Hylander Student Investment Fund. She holds a Ph.D. in economics from UCLA and a B.A. in linguistics from University of Chicago.
