Join us for a special event in celebration of Black History Month.
Lotería Afrolatina is a twist on the classic Mexican bingo game featuring Afrolatine people, communities, and cultural products that includes short biographies for each game icon.
Join the fun from 8:10 am to 9:10 a.m. or from 2:10 p.m. to 3:10 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at UCR. Both games will take place in Room 100 of the Arts Building located at the corner of University Avenue and Canyon Crest Drive. The address is 900 University Avenue, Riverside, CA 92521.
The game is open to all UCR community members of any level of experience and background. While no prior registration is required, the game will take place sitting on the floor in a dance studio setting where no shoes, food, or beverages other than water in a tight closed container are allowed. If you require any accommodations or need further information, please email your inquiries to ftorr034@ucr.edu as soon as possible.
This engagement is conceptualized by Fabiola Ochoa Torralba with co-facilitation by Samuel Briseno-Jimenez, students of the Department of Dance at UCR, who will engage participants in movement, sound making, and vocal activities in English and Spanish.
Lotería Afrolatina was created by CSUSB students Alessandro Corsaro (art and design) and Evy Zermeno (research) and accompanies Afrolatinizamos. Both projects are initiatives of the California State University San Bernardino Anthropology Museum to gather and create resources that center Afrolatine identities, histories, cultures, and perspectives.
This event is sponsored by the Latino & Latin American Studies Research Center at UCR and the East to West Project.
