You may already know about “Ask a Librarian” or “Chat with a Librarian" -- but now you can even “Zoom” with a librarian over lunch!

Why “Lunch with Librarians?”

Where do you go if you have questions about books, how to do research, or how to find other resources in the library? You may already know about “Ask a Librarian” or “Chat with a Librarian" -- but now you can even “Zoom” with a librarian over lunch!

“Lunch with Librarians” is a monthly drop-in hour similar to a professor’s office hours. Each session starts with a 10-15 minute mini presentation or demo about interesting materials or useful tips for using the library remotely. The remaining time is reserved for an open Q&A from the audience, so we can tackle your specific questions or needs. Bring us your homework, research, or other library related questions and we will do our best to assist you. Each session will have a team of expert librarians present, including representatives from Teaching & Learning, Research Services and Special Collections & University Archives.

Schedule:

  • Monday, April 12 - Insider Tips: The first month's theme is "Insider Tips," where we'll introduce you to general helpful tricks to navigate library resources remotely. This presentation will be followed by an open and facilitated Q&A session with the audience.
  • Tuesday, May 11 - E-resources You Need to Know: Our final session will focus on e-resources. This presentation will recommend databases and tips to help you navigate online educational resources. Presentation will be followed by an open and facilitated Q&A session with the audience.
  • Wednesday, June 2 - Peek Inside the Library: The second month's theme is "Peek Inside the Library." In this session, we will highlight the work of library staff onsite, giving you a glimpse into the inner workings of the library and an opportunity to learn about services like curbside pickup and archival digitization. This presentation will be followed by an open and facilitated Q&A session with the audience.

NOTE: As these workshops are recorded, attendees may be filmed and shown in the replay videos on the UCR Library's YouTube channel. Those who register should review the terms of UC Riverside's photo and video release agreement and understand that, by participating, they consent to its terms. Those who do not wish to appear in the replay are welcome to attend, but should submit their questions via the chat only.

Great! How can I sign up?

Attendees will need to sign-up on Eventbrite to receive the Zoom link. Each session will use the same Zoom link, so you only need to register once. All members of the UCR community are welcome. Attendees are encouraged to participate however they feel comfortable, cameras may be on or off and the Zoom chat function will be available.
