Lecture/Performance by Laura Cecilio AKA 100cilios

Open Stage for Improvisation, in collaboration with freelance diplomat

Laura Cecilio, AKA 100 cílios, is a Brazilian researcher, musician, and visiting scholar in the Department of Dance. Cecilio’s research traces the parallels between Black performance in early 20th century/post-emancipation Brazil and Tavia Nyong'o's concept, Afrofabulation, in its collective and improvisatory modes, through a reflection of the malandragem of Brazilian drag performer, Madame Satã (Joao Francisco dos Santos). 100 cílios also explores collective improvisation, and its fabulatory potentials, through their interactive Brazilian noise project,"Ficções", in collaboration with freelance diplomat. If participants are interested in being part of the performance, they can email: lcecilio@ucr.edu
