Join us for a week-long celebration of prototyping, creativity, and making! Organized by the UCR Library's Creat'R Lab, Maker Week is open to all UCR students, faculty, and staff. 

 

All the week's events build toward the Maker Faire Competition on May 1 where participants have the chance to win a Bambu A1 Mini 3D Printer!

Monday, April 20:

  • Creat'R Lab Tabling at the Bell Tower Mon, April 20 | 10–11 a.m. & Thu, April 23 | 1–2 p.m. Stop by and learn about our Creart'R Lab makerspace resources and learn how we can help bring your projects to life. 
  • Maker Week Keynote: Animatronics Pioneer Garner Holt Mon, April 20 | Orbach Library, 2nd Floor (Room 240) | 1–2 p.m. Garner Holt started building animatronic figures in high school and went on to found Garner Holt Productions — whose creations appear at Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, Chuck E.   • Sketching Your Own Prototype with UCR Library's Sara Stilley Tue, April 21 | Orbach Library, 1st Floor (Room 122) | 10–11 a.m. Every great invention begins with a drawing. Learn sketching techniques to turn your ideas into clear visuals you can actually build from. Register on Eventbrite.
  • Creative Storytelling with Reza Aslan Tue, April 21 | Orbach Library, 1st Floor (Room 122) | 1–2 p.m. A prototype without a story is just an object. Wedenesday, April 22:

  • Tinkering with Electronics with UCR Library's Brendan Wheeler Wed, April 22 | Orbach Library, 1st Floor (Room 122) | 10–11 a.m. Bring your prototype to life with electricity! Learn to integrate electronic components using equipment in the UCR Library's Robotics Lab. Register on Eventbrite.
  • Iterative Design with 3D CAD Modeling with UCR Library's Alvaro Alvarez Wed, April 22 | Orbach Library, 1st Floor (Room 122) | 1–2 p.m. Turn digital designs into physical objects. Friday, April 24:

  • Poster Workshop with UCR Library's Carrie Cruce Fri, April 24 | Orbach Library, 1st Floor (Room 122) | 10 a.m.–12 p.m. Learn the principles of academic poster design from UCR Library's Student Success and Engagement Librarian Carrie Cruce, a skill that will serve you at the Maker Faire Compeitition and beyond.   • Closing Ceremony & Maker Faire Competition Preview Fri, April 24 | Orbach Library, 1st Floor (Room 122) | 1–2 p.m. Wrap up the week, meet your fellow makers, and get pumped for the May 1 Maker Faire showcase! Register on Eventbrite.

 

Maker Faire Competition on May 1

  • Attendees will showcase their projects through a science fair–style event. Top prizes include a Bambu A1 Mini 3D Printer, a Mastering Autocad book, and a Blueprinting book with a multitool. All participants receive personal printing credit usable at the UCR Library Creat'R Lab. Register on Eventbrite.
