About this Event
Free EventThe talk centers on the realities of independent game production in Chile and the broader Latin American region, highlighting the cultural, economic, and political contexts that shape creative work in environments marked by limited resources and structural challenges.
The session will be led by Maureen Berho, CEO and producer at Niebla Games, who will present an overview of game creation in Chile, offering a regional analysis of industry development, collaborative networks, and gender dynamics in production spaces. Drawing from her experience as a producer and industry leader, she will reflect on how creators navigate precarious conditions while building sustainable and socially engaged projects.
In addition to the talk, the event will include a practical production workshop featuring concrete tips and entry points for beginning to create a video game, with a perspective on the democratization and accessibility of media production. Participants will gain insight into accessible tools, development pipelines, and collaborative strategies that make independent production possible.
This event aims to provide a grounded understanding of how games are produced beyond dominant industry centers, emphasizing resilience, community, and creative agency. It offers an opportunity for interdisciplinary discussion on digital culture, labor, and gender in contemporary media production.
This event is supported by the Center for Ideas and Society, Health Humanities & Disability Justice, and the Hispanic Studies Department, and is part of the series Women Game Creators in Latin America.
