Messianic politics, the idea that divine and political agendas are and should be
one and the same, has long existed in Zionist thought and Israeli politics.
Over the course of the last few decades, this type of thinking has gained
greater prominence in Israeli society and the government. This talk traces the
origins of this political ideology and examines some recent manifestations of it
in the Religious Zionist and Jewish Power (Otzma Yehudit) political parties,
which are a major voice in the current government, the Israeli settlements in
the Occupied territories, and debates over the Temple Mount.
