http://music.ucr.eduChasing a pesky fly in the company of Renée Zellweger! A brave knight on a quest! Finding hope in darkness! Amazonian fish pursuing a divorce! Cold-blooded murder! Reminiscing in a laundromat!
What do all these sentences have in common? They are the subjects of brand new “micro-operas”—short stories told through the voice in any musical genre, style, and aesthetic—by UCR graduate and undergraduate composers.
Please join the UC Riverside Composition Program for the world premieres of 10 of these compositions by renowned Los Angeles-area musicians at “An Evening of Micro-Operas: A Workshop Performance” on Wednesday, December 6 at 7:00 pm at UCR Arts.
Featured composers are Patricia-Eunice Bartow, Connor Ellis, Rory Fewer, Viet-Hai Huynh, Lorna Katz, Barbara Macz, Eloy Neira de la Cadena, Jesse Sanchez, Mint Tan, and Ronna Zon. The evening stars Kirsten Ashley Wiest, soprano; Miriam Adhanom, mezzo-soprano; Samuel Avila, tenor; Elias Berezin, tenor; Ben Lowe, baritone; and Jonathan Keplinger, pianist. Stage direction is by Kimberly Guerrero, with production management and lighting design by Greg Renne.
“An Evening of Micro-Operas: A Workshop Performance” is free and open to the public. Don’t miss it!
