NEW PLAY FESTIVAL 

by UCR MFA Playwrights     

Featuring plays by graduate students in the Creative Writing and Writing for the Performing Arts MFA program. Two different one-act plays are scheduled for each performance.

June 1-2, 2022
Wednesday and Thursday, 7:00 pm

Free and open to the public.

Some plays contain adult subject matter, sexual situations, and strong language.

JUNE 1
OLD TRICKS
by Charlie Belusa | Directed by Kimberly Guerrero
When an unfortunate but not unexpected death leaves a retirement community one bridge player short, 30 year-old Miriam is unwittingly pulled into her grandmother’s bizarre world of competitive bridge.

IN THE WAY by Lily Hart | Directed by Ricardo Rocha
In the Way follows Phd computer science students whose research partner mysteriously disappears the same night their thesis (a delightful box of hardware named Matilda) wakes up.

JUNE 2
LATINEXT by Esther Banegas Gatica | Directed by Rickerby Hinds
Three great actresses and they all fit the part, but who gets it? "Latinext" is what happens when a casting call is not specific enough, looking for a female Latin/Hispanic female lead but what does that mean? Nationality, language, or appearance?

NOT THE MYTH by Paige Goodwin | Directed by Esther Banegas Gatica
Hoping to free the universe from the confines of patriarchal power, Medusa (and the rest of her rag-tag vengeance demon agency) attempt to get rid of every last male God.
