In America: Modjeska! piano concerto/aria project, tracing the journey west of Shakespearean Polish Actress Helena Modjeska, Bohemian Artist communities in early 20th century California.

Bio:
Pamela Madsen is a composer, performer, theorist, and curator known for her large-scale, multimedia works and intimate chamber compositions. Her creations blend image, music, and text, with a focus on the impact of sound, vibro-acoustics, and environmental themes. She holds a Ph.D. in Music Composition from UCSD, has received Mellon Foundation Awards for her studies at Yale, completed post-doctoral research at IRCAM in Paris, and holds a Deep Listening certificate from Pauline Oliveros. Madsen's work has been commissioned and premiered internationally, often addressing themes of social change through immersive concert-length experiences.
Her notable projects include ORATORIO FOR THE EARTH-Kama-River of Stars, large-scale works like Music Across Borders, and collaborations with ensembles such as the Los Angeles Percussion Quartet and ModernMedieval Vocal Ensemble. She has also created multimedia operas, including Luminosity: Passions of Marie Curie, and research-based compositions like Melting Away: Gravity with photographer Camille Seaman.
Madsen's chamber works, often featuring spoken text, have been performed by renowned artists and ensembles, such as Claire Chase, JACK Quartet, and California Ear Unit. She has received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, New Music USA, and artist residencies at MacDowell Colony and UCross. A recognized scholar and lecturer, she is Professor of Music Composition at Cal State Fullerton, where she directs the New Music Ensemble, the Annual New Music Festival, and InterArts Collaborative Projects.
