Title: "Beyond Blame"

Abstract:

In this talk, I argue that, on any plausible account of blame, the factors that determine which responses are justified in response to the blameworthy are downstream of the blameworthiness facts. I'll do a bit of stage-setting, reviewing the contemporary theoretical landscape on blame, and then outline why, no matter your approach, the theories underdetermine the particular emotional and behavioral responses one should adopt. The lesson I draw from this is that, in theorizing about how to handle the blameworthy, we should move beyond blame.
