In this paper I distinguish a specific type of motivating orientation, which I call caring, and then explore my tentative hypothesis that a type of degenerative disorder, the behavioral variant of frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD), involves a deficit of caring. I also use the context of bvFTD to hone down my working account of caring.
