Teaching Artists:

Yulissa Mendoza
Honoring and elevating tradition through visual language. Based in San Bernardino, California. The foundation of their work stems from their desire to facilitate safe spaces in order for people to be able to express themselves fully and explore themselves further. They use this as their building block in order to amplify voices, empower marginalized communities, and carve space for those often overlooked. They aim to rebuke rigid, old gender roles while honoring cultures and pushing the boundaries of fashion and culture.

Brenda Angel
Angel is a muralist, fabric painter, and multidisciplinary creator whose work celebrates resilience, heritage, and cultural identity. Through large-scale murals and intricate fabric art, Angel weaves together tradition, community, and storytelling—transforming public spaces and textiles into living testaments of cultural memory and creative expression. Their practice honors the strength of collective histories while envisioning vibrant, inclusive futures.
This program is supported by the Terra Foundation, the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at UC Riverside, and by the City of Riverside.
