  Waals Heterostructures for New Quantum Material Platforms\,” will take

  for this event.\n\n \n\n \n\nABSTACT: Over the past 50 years\, two-dimens
 ional (2D) electronic systems have served as a key material platform for t
 he study of intriguing quantum phenomena in engineered material systems. M
 ore recently\, scientists have found that it is possible to fabricate atom
 ically thin van der Waals (vdW) layered materials. In these atomically thi
 n materials\, quantum physics allows electrons to move effectively only in
  a 2D space. By stacking these 2D quantum materials\, it is also possible 
 to create vdW heterostructures with a wide range of interfacial electronic
  and optical properties. Novel 2D electronic systems realized in vdW atomi
 c stacks have served as a platform for engineered quantum materials. In th
 is talk\, we will discuss several research efforts to realize emergent phy
 sical phenomena in stacked atomic thin film materials and possible applica
 tions based on these materials. I will focus our discussion on unusual qua
 siparticle pairing and emergent physical phenomena associated with many-bo
 dy quantum systems enabled in vdW heterostructures.
