On Thursday May 28,  for our end-of-year event celebrating student success on the theme of “Poiesis as Knowledge,” the Department of English welcomes poet Natalie Diaz who is Mojave and an enrolled member of the Gila River Indian Tribe (Akimel O’odham), for two intimate events. From 2:30 - 4 PM, Natalie leads a poetry workshop with the "clockworks”  technique developed in her own teaching practice.  This event invites poet learners at all levels to create with, and gain writing insights from, an extraordinary writer.   In the second event, 4:30 - 6 PM,  Natalie will read and discuss her own work, including selections from When My Brother Was an Aztec and Postcolonial Love Poem, in dialogue with English faculty member Dr. Michelle Raheja . Her reading will by followed by a Q&A with you, the audience. We close with a reception celebrating faculty, students at all levels, and staff, 6 - 6:45 PM. RSVP for all events: jtobias@ucr.edu
