Free Event

Join us for free events and workshops dedicated to preserving the past, safeguarding the present, and ensuring the future of our collective histories and personal memories.

Preservation Week is an initiative to raise awareness about the importance of preservation in our community, focusing this year on preserving identities. We invite you to partake in a series of engaging events at the library, designed to educate, inspire, and empower everyone to play a role in preserving their own cherished items and stories.

Event schedule:

Monday, April 29

  • Preservation in the Library | 1 - 3 p.m. | Rivera, 1st Floor

    • Stop by and learn about preservation in the library at our tabling event. We will explain what preservation is, why it is important, and what we currently do in the library to keep our items safe. This year’s theme is Preserving Identities and we invite you to bring all your questions about how to keep your own beloved items safe. Also, you can bring a printed copy of a photo of something or someone you love to turn it into a button on our button machine.

Wednesday, May 1

  • Make Your Own Journal  | 1 - 3 p.m. | Orbach, 1st Floor

    • Come join us and learn how to make a soft cover pamphlet journal. These easy-to-make journals are handy for taking notes or sketching. They are also a great way to learn what goes into making books. But be careful…you might end up really liking it too much and start making your own later. Promptness is important to keep the process as smooth as possible so everyone can enjoy the experience. All supplies will be provided. No previous craftiness required.

Thursday, May 2

  • Tape Removal Obstacle Course | 1 - 3 p.m. | Rivera, 1st Floor

    • Come learn about tape, and all the ways books and paper have suffered since its invention. We will have a practical hands on exercise to remove ‘archival’ tapes and see if they truly live up to the hype of being removable. We will also talk through good ways to repair your paper or hold things together.
