FROM THE PRESENTER:
Letters have always been a source of great documentary value. They record directly the interaction between individuals and thus offer intimacy and reflection that privacy provides. There are many publications devoted to the letters of such Spanish composers as de Falla, Granados, Rodrigo, and Albéniz. These reveal the existence of networks of colleagues and friends who shared experiences, thoughts, and projects. In particular, the composers express their ideas about the revival of Spanish music, interweaving them with details about their formative days, premieres abroad, and relationships with teachers and students. My aim today is to (1) reconstruct some of the personal histories that are revealed in the letters and (2) identify the networks of Spanish composers who were committed to the creation and dissemination of Spanish music.
