Demystify programming.
Software Carpentry aims to help researchers get their work done in less time with less frustration by teaching them basic research computing skills.
This hands-on workshop is designed mostly for novice users, and will cover basic concepts and tools, including program design, version control, data management, and task automation.
Each subsequent session builds on skills gained during the previous.
Here is what the workshop will cover during these two days (March 25-26 from 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on each day):
Unix Shell
Version Control with Git
Python
Workshop will include short tutorials alternating with practical exercises, and all instruction will be done via live coding.
You don't need to have any previous knowledge of the tools that will be presented at the workshop.
Workshop attendees will learn how to:
Automate tasks using the Unix shell
Write structured programming in Python
Employ version control using Git
Apply basic research computing skills to be more productive in your research.
UCR Library workshops are open only to members of the UCR community.
