#ucrdanceSpring Forward 2022: Luaʻi
Original Dance Making by UCR Choreography Students
Toni Pasion
Dance Lecturer and Artistic Director
Luaʻi in the Hawaiian language translates to a volcanic eruption. As the culmination of Dance 115: Dance as Political Activation, students present original solo and collaborative works reflecting and processing the latent truths that lie within the body-vessel, their processes of bringing them to light, and visions for possibility. The works explore identity politics, re-connection, and visions for the future.
Employing tools of imagination, memory, voice, sound, silence, and movement to shift energy, the artists envision what an ecologically conscious way-of-being looks and feels like, as the creation of new land that follows the eruption.
