In this presentation, Dr. Kikada Williams will talk about how African Americans’
accounts of the other war, the one white southerners waged on Black
families, create a portrait of what Black southerners did with freedom and
the price whites made them pay for their success. Survivors’ searing
recollections of the war after the Civil War bring to light ways that
Reconstruction did not fail but was violently overthrown.
