2024 Teaching and Learning Week: The Equity and Excellence Imperative

Explore the next steps for effective and inclusive teaching and learning at this year’s UCR Teaching and Learning Week hosted by XCITE.

Join the XCITE Center for Teaching and Learning for a week of events on engaging with students and implementing innovative teaching techniques. This year’s theme is “The Equity and Excellence Imperative”.

This annual conference is FREE and open to any UCR faculty, instructor, or graduate student interested in improving their teaching skills.

Session Information: 

“Active Learning Strategies that Promote Higher Order Learning in Large Enrollment Introductory Courses”

Join us in the XCITE Commons or on Zoom Monday, October 14th from 12-1 p.m. for the 2024 Distinguished Teaching Lecture, delivered by award winner Dr. Jack Eichler, professor of teaching in the department of Chemistry, regarding the use of active learning strategies in large lecture courses. Lunch will be served for in person attendees.

Information Literacy Assessment: Designing Assessments to Develop Information Skills

Join us on Zoom Monday, October 14th from 2-3 p.m. when Britt Foster, Director of Teaching and Learning, and Dr. Omar Safie, Director of Evaluation and Assessment, will discuss how course assessments can aid in the development of information literacy skills.

Join us on Zoom Tuesday, October 15th from 12-1 p.m. when Samantha Eastman, Senior Learning Experience Designer at XCITE, will discuss basic best practices and available tools for designing courses to enhance their accessibility for students.

Join us in the XCITE Commons on Tuesday, October 15th from 2-3:30 p.m as we premiere the XCITE-created documentary of the 2023 RIDLE program. Light refreshments will be served.

Teaching Portfolio Workshop: Writing Your Diversity Statement

Join us on Zoom on Wednesday, October 16th from 12-1 p.m when Dr. Swati Ramani, Faculty Development Specialist at XCITE, will be discussing strategies for developing and writing a diversity statement for your teaching portfolio.
