About Dr. Beronda Montgomery

Dr. Beronda Montgomery is a leader in mentoring, academic leadership, and equity, diversity and inclusion, as well as being a prominent plant biochemist. She is currently the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Dean of Grinnell College. Dr. Montgomery’s perspectives on mentoring and leadership have helped form the foundations of the ARA Faculty Mentoring Program within CNAS. Dr. Montgomery is a plant biochemist, writer, and scholar who focuses on how individuals perceive, respond to, and are impacted by the environments in which they exist; this theme unites her research with her efforts for systemic change in mentoring and leadership. Her 2021 book Lessons from Plants creatively joins the principles of plant responses and adaptations to their environments with best practices for mentoring and creating an equitable, diverse and inclusive university environment.
