UCR’s Department of English invites you to join acclaimed writer, Manuel Muñoz, for a reading and discussion of The Consequences (Graywolf Press, 2022), his newest short story collection. The stories tell of the mundane and extraordinary events in the daily lives of Mexican and Mexican American farmworkers in the small towns of California’s Central Valley during the 1980s. Muñoz’s characters navigate messy and often violent realities, from the quotidian struggles of everyday life to the terror of immigration and deportation, and in his stories these realities are treated with tenderness and care.

*** This event is free and open to the public

Sponsored by the Department of English, Department of Creative Writing’s Writer’s Week, Tomás Rivera Chair, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Ethnic Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, the Center for Ideas and Society, and the Latino and Latin American Research Center.
