Title: An Introduction to Arithmetic Hyperbolic Surfaces
Abstract: Arithmetic hyperbolic surfaces, as their name suggests, lie at the intersection of number theory, geometry, and topology. Larry Guth has said that arithmetic hyperbolic surfaces "are among the strangest and most interesting examples in (Riemannian) geometry." The goal of this talk is to give an overview of their construction, and their geometric properties that make them such valuable example. The talk will accessible to graduate students and there will be a lot of pictures.
