Using a digital platform, UCR student choreographers confront shelter-at-home and ‘physical-distancing’ mandates during a global pandemic as they create partnered-solo work exploring notions of ritual alone, together. What rituals have helped us navigate crisis before? Can practicing self-care enact ritual? Howdo rituals ignite collectivity, inclusive spaces, or everyday personal habits? Rituals are transformative, healing, spiritual, secular. Can rituals also manifest oppression, liberation, exist continuously, abruptly?

Rituals come to us in dreams, while breathing, in stillness, seasonally, energetically, through the unfamiliar, in isolation, from words of affirmation, in moments of becoming, and honoring our ancestors.

Rituals are our intentions in repetition. For nine weeks, dance-makers enrolled in DNCE115G: Dance-Making, Dance as Ritual have thought and moved through these questions as an avenue to locate what ritual means to them during uncertain times.
