Winter 2019

The University of California Riverside Department of Dance is delighted to host multidisciplinary Colombian and Japanese born artists Ximena Garnica and Shige Moriya with their New York-based LEIMAY Ensemble for a three-week residency.
 
The teaching artists will conduct research, lead master classes, teach, and work to transmit excerpts from LEIMAY Ensemble repertory pieces to UCR dance students.

On February 20 and 21, 2019 at 7:30 pm, Ximena Garnica, Shige Moriya with the LEIMAY Ensemble (Masanori Asahari, Krystel Copper, Derek DiMartini, Mario Galeano, and Andrea Jones) and composer Jeff Beal will present the dance-theater work Frantic Beauty in the Performance Lab, ARTS 166.

There will be multiple opportunities to engage through embodied dialogue with the artists while they are in residency, the following activities are open to the public and UCR campus unless noted otherwise.

The  LEIMAY Ensemble is opening their training to anybody on campus that would like to experience some of the aspects of their LUDUS practice. All bodies are welcome - no movement/dance experience is needed. This class is free and open to campus with RSVP. Please RSVP HERE

LEIMAY Ensemble LUDUS Master Class

12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
The  LEIMAY Ensemble is opening their training to anybody on campus that would like to experience some of the aspects of their LUDUS practice. All bodies are welcome not movement/dance experience is needed.
Followed by a potluck and conversation among participants and community members.

Wednesday, February 27
A site-based outside Installation Performance at UCR ARTS Building
Location: ARTS Building
2:30pm to 3:30pm
Free and open to campus
The multi-part installation consists of a series of kinetic string-sculptures powered by performers, interspersed with other site-based performances around the Arts building complex.  The work allows for multiple interplays between the environment, the materials of the body, and the sculpture. Performed by students of the DNCE180J studio lab course and members of the LEIMAY Ensemble.
