Join the UCR Orchestra with special guest artist Pedro Rubio. The orchestra features Brahms's radiant, masterly Variations on a Theme by Haydn, and Of Our New Day Begun, a powerful meditation on the Black national anthem "Lift Every Voice and Sing" by jazz musician and composer Omar Thomas. Clarinetist and international artist Pedro Rubio, visiting from Madrid's Turina Conservatory and Royal Superior Conservatory, captivates in Weber's beloved, virtuosic Clarinet Concerto No. 2. Also on the program: William Grant Still’s jazz-tinged, luscious Summerland, and Linda Robbins Coleman's rollicking overture, In Good King Charles's Golden Days. Conducted by Ruth Charloff.
