UCR Choirs: Chamber Singers & Chorale

December 4, 8:00 p.m.

University Theatre

with guest artist Ralph Cato, baritone

Ruth Charloff, director

Abe Fabella, pianist

The UCR Chamber Singers and Chorale sing a warm and welcoming variety of choral music, including holiday-themed songs by Hailstork, Vaughan Williams, Barber, Britten, Distler, Rheinberger, Schutz and more, plus Brahms's rhapsodic "How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place" and deeply-felt music by U2 and Paul Simon. Specially featured is music by two celebrated young composers of today: "TaRaKiTa" by the Los-Angeles-based Indian-American composer Reena Esmail, and the gorgeous, gospel-tinged "Sanctus" by African-American composer Carlos Simon.  Baritone RALPH CATO is our special guest artist, performing songs by Ned Rorem, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor.  ABE FABELLA joins us at the piano.  Ruth Charloff conducts.
