About this Event
This talk will be focused on the hidden effects of hearing loss as we age.
The first speaker, Dr. Aaron Seitz, will focus on understanding and training to remediate central hearing loss.
Dr. Seitz is a professor of psychology at the University of California, Riverside, where he conducts research on the mechanisms of learning and memory. While his primary appointment is in Psychology, he holds cooperative appointments in Bioengineering, Biomedical Sciences, Computer Science, the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program, and Psychiatry. He is also Director of the UCR Brain Game Center, and he’ll be sharing more with you about his work in that center tonight.
The second speaker, Dr. Khaleel Razak, will discuss age-related changes in central auditory processing.
Dr. Razak's interest in hearing sciences began at this time through work done on a landline-based telephone for the hearing impaired, which he tested on children at a school for the deaf in Chennai, India. He received his Ph.D. in Zoology/Physiology and Neuroscience from the University of Wyoming (2001) where he began his studies on central auditory processing and mechanisms in animal models of human conditions. Dr. Razak joined the UCR Psychology Department in 2007, and is currently a Professor of Psychology and the Director of the Graduate Neuroscience Program.
