"Write from Where You Are," led by acclaimed author Tim Z. Hernández, is an insightful workshop forming part of the bilingual creative writing series hosted by the LLASRC Latino & Latin American Studies Research Center. Running from March 1st to May 10th, 2024, this series also features workshops by Iván Aguirre (Hispanic Studies Department, UCR), Elena Cardona (Soka University of America), and Paula Cucurella (Hispanic Studies Department, UCR).

Tim Hernández invites participants to delve into a journey of self-discovery and creative expression, emphasizing the richness within one's own life and surroundings. He challenges the common notion that compelling stories are only found "out there" – beyond our personal experiences, communities, or family circles. By honing our awareness and attentiveness, Hernández illustrates how stories are often closer than we think, eagerly waiting to be uncovered and shared by us.

Whether these narratives manifest as poetry, prose, journalism, photography, music, or other artistic forms, the crux lies in our unique ability to bring them to life. This workshop is not just about finding stories but transforming them into resonant works of art that speak of our experiences and perspectives.

Participants will be guided through the process of identifying and capturing their personal stories, fostering a space where tales are not just written, but also sung, danced, and celebrated in the light of creative freedom.

Join us in this journey of exploration and expression, where your stories await to be told by none other than you.
